A week in Ísafjörður

Ísafjörður on your own

There is not much to do in Ísafjörður , but we still decided to visit the small town in north-west Iceland. With just under 4,000 inhabitants, it's not exactly big - but that's why it's all the quieter. The city was not built on natural ground, but is practically in the sea and is constantly being expanded by sand deposits.

Ísafjörður is great for hiking...

getting there

If you want to travel to Ísafjörður on your own, the easiest way is to fly with Air Iceland from Reykjavik. The flight only takes about 40 minutes. and in good weather also highly recommended, as the small propeller plane has to fly between the mountains at times ;) It is best to buy the tickets right there at the airport, they are usually cheaper there.

There are not many sights - but an excellent, barren nature - especially suitable for hiking ! If you like a lot of action, you shouldn't go there :)

Accommodation in Isafjordur

Airbnb is highly recommended here! there are some apartments/rooms for rent. The advantage of private accommodation is that you get in touch with the locals very quickly - and hiking with the locals is much more fun!
