Tag 40 and 41: Songkran in Bangkok

Before the Songkran Festival started at 12 o'clock, we decided to visit a snake farm. There, all the snakes that can typically be found in Thailand were exhibited, and we also learned a lot about snake behavior and anatomy. However, the absolute highlight was the live snake show. We saw pythons, various types of cobras, and many other poisonous and non-poisonous snakes. All the snakes kept at the farm are used to create antivenoms. Therefore, the poisonous snakes which were walking around 3-4 meters away from us were indeed poisonous, even deadly...

After the snake farm, we went to Silom Road, where the biggest Songkran Festival in Bangkok takes place. It was insane: everyone was armed with water guns and we just squirted each other... But everything was peaceful and completely without alcohol. Here, we could be like kids again three times :)

The next day, before joining the water fight, we wanted to see some of Bangkok and learn about Thailand. Markus read about a very modern museum about the history of Thailand, so we headed there. When we arrived at the museum, we were surprised to find out that admission was completely free during the holidays, and even the audio guide was free. After spending 2 hours at the museum, we continued on foot to the Golden Mountain, a temple on a small hill in the middle of Bangkok. On the way to this temple, we were already soaked and had lime rubbed on our faces. Apparently, this is supposed to bring luck for the new year... We'll see! When we reached the temple, we climbed a few stairs. At the top, we were rewarded with a truly beautiful view of Bangkok. After enjoying the view and recovering from our long walk in the heat, we headed to the water fight. But this time, it was on Khao San Road, which is the party and backpacker district of Bangkok. There, we had the same festival as the day before on Silom Road, the only difference was that there was beer and music :) We stayed there with 1,2, many beers until late in the night. That was a great ending to our time in Bangkok. So, we returned to the hostel, took a shower, and then went to bed, exhausted after a really long day.
