Bali - Ubud

From Nusa Penida, I took the ferry back to Bali. This time, my destination was Ubud. Ubud is the green heart of Bali and enchants with its charming little shops, art and culture, as well as its food.

In Ubud, I relaxed for a bit. There was a wonderful pool, nice people, and I even found a German book that I could borrow.

On the second evening, I met Julia, whom I had met on Nusa Penida. I spent the next few days with her. One of the highlights was the traditional Ubud market. This market is open from 4-8 AM right in the heart of the city. At this time, you will mostly find locals selling their traditional fruits and foods. It's a vibrant atmosphere worth experiencing. After 8 AM, the fruit market transforms into the typical Ubud market that tourists are familiar with. Here, you can find clothes, bags, and souvenirs - everything a tourist's heart desires. By the way, bargaining is also possible at these stalls.

After visiting the market, we went to the Campuyang Ridge Walk. It's a beautiful green trail that goes over small hills, offering views of the jungle and rice terraces. It's really charming.

In the evening, we treated ourselves to a traditional Indonesian performance, which included a Barong dance. The Barong dance depicts the battle between the Barong and its archenemy Rangda. In Balinese mythology, the Barong symbolizes a good spirit in the form of a lion, while Rangda is a demonic queen.

The next day, I was feeling a bit sick because the air conditioning in my dorm was set too cold. Additionally, I found out that my credit card was hacked and had to cancel it. Unfortunately, this is quite common in Bali, so you always have to be careful where you withdraw money. Needless to say, it was not my lucky day.

On the following day, we went on another excursion, which was really nice. First, we visited the Goa Lawah Temple, which has a cave inhabited by countless bats. It was fascinating to observe them. Next, we went to the Hidden Canyon. Due to heavy rain during the night, the water level was high and we got completely wet a few times while trying to climb through. Lastly, we visited the Kanto Lampo Waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls near Ubud. You can even stand under it and take incredible pictures. However, you have to swim through the water (which I didn't dare to do with my camera), so we could only take some great pictures from the side. In the evening, we met two of Julia's friends and enjoyed delicious food and played card games together.
