Telegraph Cove

After the grizzly bears, we wanted to see orcas again. For this, we went to Telegraph Cove. The place is known for its whale watching tours, where the killer whales are the main attraction, garnished with sightings of a few humpback whales and the local colony of large sea lions (stellar sea lions). You can also see black bears in the little town. A whale tour was already booked, so off we went to see the orcas - that was the plan. Unfortunately, we must have forgotten to inform the orcas because there were actually none to be found - for the first time in weeks. The rest of the tour was really good, with humpback whales all around, but we were still disappointed because we were focused on seeing killer whales. Later, we met another German couple who told us that they had seen pods of orcas on the tour the previous day. So, we decided to book another whale watching tour for the next day to try our luck again. Unfortunately, we were not rewarded, and there were again "only" humpback whales, but they were still very beautiful. We asked and found out that the orcas have probably moved to their winter quarters, which is exactly where we are heading next. So, we'll probably have to do whale watching there too... well, as you can see, that's not much of a punishment for us... but unfortunately, we couldn't book it quickly, so we'll have to take care of it on site if we can get a tour.

There were no black bears for us this time in Telegraph Cove either. There was one in the town, but we only heard about it, unfortunately, we missed it.

But now we have a ferry ride ahead of us: From Telegraph Cove, we first go to Port Hardy, the last stop on Vancouver Island. From there, we will take the ferry to the mainland, which leads through the so-called Inside Passage to Prince Rupert.
