On Monday we arrived late in Singapore. We arrived at the hotel around 11 pm. Our room is only 12 sqm, but it has a window. In Singapore, this is not common (at least not in this price category 😉). Since we knew the room was small, we only packed one backpack for the two of us. The second one can be stored directly under the bed.
On Tuesday, we slept in and enjoyed not being tied to fixed breakfast times. After breakfast, we bought a tourist card, as you can reach everything here by public transport. They run very frequently and are heavily air-conditioned. Madlin often wore a thin jacket to avoid getting sick, because outside of buses and malls, it was constantly sweating with 33 degrees and 80 percent humidity 🥵. This was also the first time our merino socks failed... The malls, which are on every corner, are also heavily air-conditioned and often provided us with cooling. Already on our first day, we realized that everything runs very orderly here. There are strict rules for everything and high penalties for not following them. In the evening, we visited the Chinatown district. During dinner, we got talking to a local couple who gave us tips for the city. They also introduced us to the secrets of the Chinese hotpot. We were a bit overwhelmed doing it on our own.
On Wednesday (May 31, 2023), we explored the Little India and Arab quarters on foot. It's amazing how diverse the city is! Among all the skyscrapers, these neighborhoods are only two stories high. After a 13 km walk in the midday sun, we took a bus through the city just to cool off. At dusk, we visited Gardens by the Bay. From the top of one of the artificial trees, we had a wonderful view of the city and enjoyed the sunset. Afterwards, we experienced a light show with opera music.
When we had slept in on Thursday, it was raining. For this reason, we decided to stay in bed and watch Netflix. But for breakfast, we had to go out in the rain. It was very pleasant to be able to leave the hotel room without having to apply sunscreen from head to toe 😁. After breakfast, we went to the airport to visit it. The airport has a huge mall, in the middle of which is a 40-meter high waterfall. In general, you can say that the airport is very well organized, especially considering its size. Since we liked the light show so much the previous night, we went to Gardens by the Bay again in the evening.
Today we explored the Downtown and the banking district. In conclusion, we admired the Singapore skyline from the 56th floor of Marina Bay Sands. The view is breathtaking! Since we will be picked up at 3:30 am tomorrow morning to go to the airport, we will end the day with pizza and Netflix.
Our conclusion: The city is very clean and diverse. Furthermore, the city is surprisingly green - hardly any skyscraper is not greened. The people who live here are all very friendly, open-minded, and helpful. There is also a great variety of food. In the food courts, you can find almost every type of Asian food at affordable prices. Singapore is definitely worth a visit!
Bye, bye Singapore (those who follow us diligently know the next destination 😜)
