Marble Rocks and Waterfall

प्रकाशित: 05.11.2024

A day before Diwali, we went to see the sights of Jabalpur.

First, we drove to the Ghughra Waterfall. The traffic in Jabalpur is truly insane. People overtake on the opposite lane, and because most don’t know the traffic rules, honking is the only thing that matters. The way to the waterfall was then filled with shops. We made the trip with cousins and our uncle.

Water falls 30 meters deep

The river where the waterfall is located is sacred to Hindus. Rural farmers often worship the river, and it is their most important god.

After I dipped my head in the water and was blessed, we then went to the Marble Rocks.

The rocks are made of marble

On the way to the boat dock, there were again many shops, which, for my standards, are not even expensive. At the dock, we were approached by 10 people at the same time, asking if we wanted to ride with their boat. Then the ride started on a covered boat. It was 32 degrees and the sun was shining strongly.

During the ride, we were able to see many different rocks. The Marble Rocks are very famous in India, and various Bollywood films have been shot there.

At the end of the boat ride, there was a very striking event. On the rocks stood a thin man and his son at a height of 15 meters. They shouted that they would jump into the river for money. Then the son, who was perhaps 12 years old and very emaciated, jumped and swam very quickly to the boat to collect his…. 20 rupees (20 cents). It's sad to see what some people have to do to survive, and it makes you realize the luxury in which you actually live.

After all the sights, we went to a ceremony before Diwali. This ceremony took place at the river and was a light and music show.

Light and music show

After we fought our way through the crowds, we were able to enjoy the show. There were spotlights set up, and very loud techno music was played during the show. The music was very loud, hard, and it was supposed to symbolize the power of the gods. In Hinduism, nothing is eaten before the morning prayer, or on some days people fast completely to feel the presence of the gods.

After that, we went for dinner with 4 in the back seat.

Tomorrow is Diwali.
