24.08. Hamburg and returning motorhome

प्रकाशित: 25.08.2019

At 10:00 am, the ferry arrives as planned in Travemünde - we go to the car deck to our motorhome, when Flo suddenly says 'oops, where is my phone'. Dani quickly rushes back to the cabin - it's in the trash can, we hope Samuel resists the urge to dispose of useless things ;)

We now have another hour's drive to Kayhude, just before that we dutifully return the deposit bottles and then it's time to empty the camper. The handover goes smoothly, although they look very closely - after the experience in Scotland, we now know how to handle the battleship. We wait another hour for our pre-booked minivan taxi and then head towards Hamburg Central Station, where we initially store our luggage, the night train home doesn't depart until 8:29 pm. Then we take the subway to go first to the 'Hamburger Meile', a shopping center. We only spend 90 minutes here - at first we consider visiting the 'Hamburg Dungeon', a horror cabinet with actors, but Sophie refuses.

So we go to the Landungsbrücken for a short walk to the 'Panoptikum', a wax figure cabinet that has been modeling figures since around 1900. Felix picks his nose in Otto Waalkes' nose and Sammy keeps setting off the alarm (please do not cross the barriers!).

Still have time - so we also stroll through St. Pauli to the Millerntor, the home stadium of FC St. Pauli, and browse the fan shop. Samuel also gets his skull shirt.

At the train station, we have a Bavarian meal and drink Paulaner to ensure a somewhat good night's sleep. The train departs on time, boarding with a tired child is stressful. The sleeper compartment is as cramped as always, but we make it through the night - tomorrow back to Vienna. Back to everyday life!

Tack så mycket to all readers, more photos will be available at a reunion with Surströmming tasting!

All the best, the Döpfl Family
