Pai is a city in northern Thailand. After a four-hour bus ride from Chiang Mai through the mountains, where you can see the most beautiful landscapes, I arrived in the small town. The bus station is located directly on the main road with a large market and thousands of tourists. Until four in the afternoon, this street seems deserted, but as soon as the night market opens, all the tourists flock there and the bars suddenly open. You don't see many locals in the city center, you have to drive five minutes outside.
Upon my arrival, I immediately rented a scooter and drove to my hostel.
On the first evening, I went to the night market to eat and explore the city. You can spend an eternity wandering through the alleys. Every five meters, there is a new stall where you have to try something or a small tourist shop where you can browse.
During the day, you have the opportunity to explore the area. Most of the time, I rode my scooter through the rice fields to a waterfall, the canyon, or various cafes in the middle of the mountains. The Bamboo Bridge, where I spent a morning, was well worth it.
First, I had to drive up a super steep mountain road to the small village.
In the village, the residents have built a large bridge out of bamboo, which leads to a temple in the middle of the field and offers a great view of nature.
In addition, I visited various temples and drove to the white Buddha in the middle of a mountain.
This Buddha is visible from anywhere in the city and watches over Pai.
He's not very exciting, but it's still worth taking a few minutes to visit him, as it's not far and such a large statue is very impressive.
