Tonight is Friday and we have had very eventful days behind us. We are now, according to the locals, at the most beautiful place in the world.. in Sedona. Modest as the Americans are. Aliens are said to cause magical radiation here, which is said to have healing powers. Around this fantastically located place, red rocks named Bell Rock or Little Horse rise into the azure blue sky. Wait a minute... the blue was yesterday, today the sky looks more overcast like a bridal veil and the temperatures have dropped to 6 degrees above zero... brrr. Good thing we have it warm and cozy in the RV.
Here in Sedona we have planned for two nights and have docked at Elks RV Park for that. The view is simply fantastic, apart from that there is only electricity and water and nothing else. Absolutely fine for us, we have everything else on board.
We arrived here last night after driving through the Coconino National Forest and reaching heights of up to 7,300 feet. There were places there on a plateau called Gisela and Strawberry, and we used the drive for a few stops at antique shops. These are very special shops where there is all sorts of junk. Not my thing, but the others like it. My father found a few old license plates that will find a place in the shed later.
Since Wednesday we have been traveling in the land of the Apaches. In Roosevelt in the Tonto National Forest we came across a beautiful reservoir. A true paradise, nestled in a hilly landscape dotted with the typical cacti here. Only the Indians were missing at the top of the cliff.
But back to today. This morning, Dad had to do a small repair on the RV, and we got support from our neighbors. An American couple, around forty years old. He had a drill and was a great help. Both of them promptly sat down with us in the RV and we had a nice conversation. Since August, their RV has been their home. They plan to stay for a few more months and then go to Italy... the classic dropouts. How they finance it remains a mystery to us, but they seemed to be very happy and positive people. Only in the long run would they miss their friends, well for the moment they had us. In the end, she even offered to provide us with clothing, as it is unexpectedly cold. As skiers, they have everything with them. But we are tough North Germans and politely decline. Once again, Americans as I like them, almost everywhere. I'm a little annoyed that we didn't exchange names, numbers, or Facebook accounts, but oh well...
We then strolled through Sedona for a while. The hilly street makes it a bit difficult for me with my wheelchair, but you can imagine why this place is considered the most beautiful in the world. Only cloudy skies and cold weather make this impression as a snapshot. My little travel group is currently on the path to Devil's Bridge, through rough terrain.. ideal for me to give you an update. It will just take a bit longer to upload it, as we still don't have Wi-Fi today.
From tomorrow on, we will continue towards Vegas, but before that we will make 1-2 more stops. The stages will be pleasantly short, and then it will get warmer again.
