Day 22 - Transit and sightseeing in Amsterdam

Day 21 (August 26, 2023)

The return flight is quiet. Sleeping is difficult, but I manage to nap for a few hours. Sohnemann, on the other hand, probably has 10 hours of screen time. I'm curious to see how it survives the following 8 hours of transit in Amsterdam.

We land in Amsterdam promptly just before 12 p.m. Since our luggage is checked through, we can leave the airport with our hand luggage and go to the city center. Take the train to Amsterdam Centraal station. According to the weather app it's still supposed to rain, but so far we're lucky. Let's hope the rain takes a while to come.

We decide to take a canal cruise. As it turns out, it was a good decision because it actually rained during our 1 hour tour. We sit in the dry and enjoy the ride.

After the tour we walk through the city center and since the kids would like to eat “typical fries”, we stop at Ter Marsch & Co and find a free table. Now there's a huge portion of fries with sauce, I'm testing the signature fries with Old Amsterdam cheese. Yummy! Yes - unhealthy - but you just have to eat it.

While we were eating it was pouring rain outside. Well, we have the perfect timing!

Shortly after we've finished eating, it stops raining again and the sun comes out. Perfect!

We continue to look around Amsterdam, admiring the delicacies in the cafes and “sniffing” the air as we pass “certain shops/cafes”… here you can find delicacies such as cannabis cookies, lollipops, etc.

There are other interesting shops where you can buy magic mushrooms... Eww 😉

At 5 p.m. we returned to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport by train and checked in. It all happens relatively quickly, so we didn't have to rush too much. Our flight to Frankfurt is scheduled to take off at 8:35 p.m., so we still have time at the gate. Son, who has already slept through half the canal trip, makes himself comfortable on several chairs and takes a nap, while I edit holiday videos.

A “ping” on my cell phone suddenly changes my mood: your KLM flight is delayed!!!

Oh no, not again!! The new departure time is now 9:05 p.m. Grumpy…

At least KLM can stick to this departure time and so we finally manage to land in Frankfurt around 10:30 p.m. Loooong day!

Next annoyance: we have to wait for our luggage! Oh no – according to the information display, 20 minutes. I get the crisis. It's now 11 p.m. and we're waiting...

Shortly afterwards we actually get our bags and make it home before midnight.

Back to good old Germany 😉
