Traveling is not about moving through the world, but about being moved, touched and changed by the world.
And don't be afraid of the unknown, just do it - it could turn out well.🙏🏼
My trip to Sri Lanka last year was an experiment, a game, but one that had consequences.
The need for liberation and relief has been the common thread 🖍️ in my life ever since, or at least it should be. The less is my new added value. It's about disarmament on all fronts: clearing out, disposing of, slowing down, unburdening, relaxing.
The first thing I started doing was reducing my hours at work. I do decluttering all the time. Unfortunately, I don't have the feeling that my baggage is getting any less yet. But step by step.
It's a strange world we live in. We have more time and more options than ever before - and we are working harder than ever before. An ever-increasing part of the effort is to keep the brave new world away from you because it simply overwhelms you.
I like to tailor my life around me. It's not primarily about saving money, although the manageable costs allow you to work less, but rather about making it easier to concentrate only on what is really important to you. I wouldn't really call this method minimalism but essentialism. I give up things that mean nothing to me, but spend money on things that other people consider pointless luxuries. It's about finding out what is really important and essential to you. The rest can go.
For example, what's really important to me is not only discovering and trying out new things but also engaging with my favorite things. Although I just think it's nice to do nothing and have a kind of "hibernation" in the cold months, but then it starts again.
My favorite things definitely include long walks, preferably along the Elbe or in the forest, cold beer, the smell of freshly mown grass, watching old films with “Luzie” -neighbours cat, biting into ripe peaches 🍑, my hot water bottle in bed is also part of it (a man would be nice for a change), but then also to swim in the ice-cold Baltic Sea, read biographies, preferably of strong women and of course sleep for a long time and then have breakfast in bed with all the crumbs that come with it Croissant leaves.
Someone once said that we are made up of the things we let get to us and once you start listing them all, the world is suddenly full of our favorite things.💞And full of delight.
