Departure & 1st day in Singapore

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 09.10.2016

5:30 departure to Frankfurt. I still wasn't really nervous. Everything still felt so unreal. All I was thinking about was whether I had packed everything. Important: credit card and passport.
Of course, we got stuck in traffic on the highway. According to the radio, there was a 7 km traffic jam. Since we left early, it wasn't a big deal. But time was running out and I started to get scared that we would be late for the airport and I would have to rush to check in. But we quickly got out of the traffic jam and I was relieved that we would make it on time. Now they said on the radio that the traffic jam had extended to 15 km. Good thing we were at the beginning of the jam.
At the airport, dad dropped us off to look for a parking spot. I could check in right away. Now we waited for dad and made sure we found our way around the big airport. I quickly found my gate. After a short break, I had to say goodbye... I had been able to hold back tears during goodbyes the whole time. But not this time...
The security check went smoothly and now I had to wait for boarding. According to the boarding pass, it was at 11:30. But we didn't actually start until around 12. The airplane is really huge. The Airbus A380. I had an aisle seat and had already familiarized myself with the entertainment program. It took ages for the plane to actually take off. You really don't feel anything during takeoff. You're hardly pressed into the seat and I hardly felt any pressure in my ears either. Shortly after takeoff, they started distributing lunch. Nice Thai Chicken. But spicy... Not for Laura! :D Otherwise, the food was very delicious.
I watched Finding Dory first. I expected more... After two more movies, I actually wanted to sleep. But I couldn't. About 3 hours before we were supposed to land, I got really tired. But as luck would have it, breakfast was being served. So no sleep after all. Having warm noodles for breakfast was also kind of strange... So I didn't sleep a minute during the 12.5-hour flight. Arrival in Singapore local time 6:50.
Everything went smoothly at the airport in Singapore and I could go straight to the MRT station. The ticket for the MRT (subway) for tourists for 2 days could only be purchased at a certain counter, which would only open in 20 minutes. So we had to wait. I met a German couple there who were also in Singapore for 2 days.
With the ticket in hand, we took the MRT together for the first time. Luckily, we had to go in the same direction. You can't enter the MRT station without a ticket. The gates only open when you hold a valid ticket in front of them. At the stops where the MRT stops, there are doors so that no one can get onto the tracks. The doors open simultaneously with the doors of the MRT. We had to transfer at the Tanah Merah station. As soon as we got off, the disgusting air hit us. It was only 8:30 and already hot and stuffy. When I arrived at the hostel, I was already sweaty :D I couldn't check in to the hostel yet. I just changed clothes quickly and left my big backpack there. So first, I went out and explored the city. Without sleep and in this weather, it wasn't easy to stay awake. I walked around everywhere and looked at everything. I didn't want to take pictures yet. Time didn't pass at all and I went back to the hostel at 13:00. Luckily, I could already go to my room because normally check-in is at 15:00. After a shower and fresh clothes, I went out to eat again. Singapore is not exactly cheap, but you can get good and cheap food in the so-called hawker centers. In the centers, there are 'shops' like street stalls. After a long search, I decided on a noodle soup. First problem: eating with chopsticks! I hope nobody was watching. I just tried to push everything onto the spoon :D The noodles were not small, more like a whole block of spaghetti. But I managed and it was very delicious for $2.50. So about €1.60.
Then I went back to the hostel and went to bed at 18:00!
