Serbia, an unknown travel gem, has a lot to offer. From the open culture of the people to the beautiful landscapes, there's a lot of things u can enjoy while you're staying in Serbia. In the summer, u can go for a swim in the Danube River, for a hike in the mountainous south and visit the 'Kopaonik' or just go shopping in Belgrade. In the winter, u can go skiing and snowboarding at the ski center of Kopaonik or enjoy a wellness weekend at one of many medical resorts, which Serbia has a lot to offer, for example at the 'Vrnjacka Banja', the Vrnjici Spa.
But before you go, there are 5 things you should keep in mind before visiting Serbia:
- I may be biased when I say this, as a serbian, but the people are great and really open to tourists and travellers. So don't be afraid to ask anything, someone will always glady help you.
- Ask your Hotel / Motel if the tap water is drinkable. In Serbia, there are some places where u can drink tap water, but in most places u can't.
- When you're in the countryside, don't expect people to be able to talk english. Young people and city residents usually have some knowledge about english and will help you but some old woman in the countryside won't be able to talk to you.
- If you're planning to go to Serbia in the summer, be prepared for high temperatures. Because of the mountains in the south, the hot air doesn't get carried away and sticks in Serbia. In some cities, the temperatures can reach to 38 degrees.
- There's all sorts of tourists in Serbia right now, as Serbia gets more and more discovered as a Balkan travel destination. So don't be afraid to make friends with some tourists on the way, because the more the merrier.
I hope I could help someone out with my advices and I'm happy to see some of you readers in Serbia in the future!
