29.5.2024 Sea day
Today we actually wanted to visit Lüderitz/Namibia. Since there is no suitable port there, the transport to the mainland was planned using tender boats.
I was just getting ready when the captain made the announcement: Due to adverse weather, the tenders could not be used. I looked outside: thick fog and rough seas. Disappointed, I lay down again.
At 11 a.m. I attended an interesting lecture about Côte d'Ivoire.
In contrast, the "lecture" on South African history was a disappointment. It started with the wrong location being given and we had to move. We had already missed part of it by then. Then we were asked to learn a Xhosa dance and later the lyrics of a Nelson Mandela anthem. No interest!
Judi Shurson's birthday party started at 5:30 p.m., to which I was kindly invited. As a welcome, Judi gave each of her eight guests a bag full of sweets. I had brought her a bar of chocolate. We ate our delicious meals in the steak restaurant "Chops Grille" and had a lively conversation. To our surprise, the generous Judi then paid all of our bills.
I then accompanied Judi to the theater where the "East Coast Boys" were performing.
Afterwards we parted ways and I listened to the String Reverie Trio for a while before I retired to my cabin.
