Last week, I traveled a lot. The first two days (Monday to Wednesday), I took some time to explore the famous city of Cannes. Finally, I experienced a real beach feeling here, as I found the first sandy beach on the French Riviera. Although it was a bit coarse and didn't feel the same as the Baltic Sea, I still enjoyed an evening at the beach.
On Wednesday, I continued to Toulon, the naval base of France. It's a cool city because of the navy. I had read before that there is a monument of Heinrich Heine here, which was also located in Hamburg and Altona from 1909 to 1939. So I spent most of the time searching for the monument. In Toulon, I also had a really cool Airbnb host who I talked to for a long time because she likes to complain about the French and loves Germany and its people. I even got a small homemade dessert from her in the evening.
On Thursday, I continued my journey to the second largest city in the country, Marseille, where I stayed until Sunday. There is a lot to see in Marseille. I also dedicated some time to modern architecture here. I actually wanted to take more time, but still managed to see almost everything in one day. Here, I also tried a hostel for the first time. What can I say, it was really cool and cheaper than getting an Airbnb. Of course, for testing purposes, I chose the largest dormitory with 8 people. It was a cool experience, not much different than sleeping with strangers in a room in Taizé.
Today, I moved on to Aix-en-Provence, where I have my next WWOOFing place at Sheila's.
