Planänderung/ Change of plan

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 11.12.2020

Nice to see you! 🤗

Another week has passed. This week was a bit chaotic.

We were supposed to have an evaluation day on Tuesday. But it was canceled because several people were sick.

And then the shock in the evening. Two employees tested positive for Covid. We were asked to leave the ranch for four weeks. So now we have four weeks of Christmas vacation instead of just two weeks. 😍

Originally, my plan was to fly to Virginia with my roommate over Christmas. But we decided to move our flights to yesterday. So we called the airline to clarify some things. They actually called me "Salami van Ende". 😂 And you're supposed to keep it together during the conversation. 😅

Many of our students have tried to book or change flights to come home as soon as possible.

Yesterday our journey started. We were taken to the airport in Pittsburgh, which is 2 1/2 hours away in the morning. We had breakfast at McDonald's. I wanted a regular chicken burger. The McDonald's cashier was confused at first. I didn't know that they call it a "chicken sandwich" here. 😂 But I think he understood me. But they still didn't have a "chicken sandwich". They only had the breakfast menu. After I placed my order, the McDonald's cashier said goodbye to me with these words: "Have a good day, babe!" That confused me. 😂 Seems to be normal here.

When I was boarding and was moving my tickets back and forth over the scanner, the woman said to me, "Hold it still, Honey." That made me grin again. 😄

The change at Charlotte Douglas International Airport was quite easy. It suddenly got warm when we got off the plane. I guess it's because Virginia is further south. 😅 However, we had to wait for over an hour until we could board our connecting flight. 😫

On the second flight, I sat next to a 70-year-old man who asked me what I was doing here and how I liked America. We had a very interesting conversation. He told me a lot about his life and that he had served in the military. I was amazed when he said that he had moved 42 times because of his job. He has lived in Germany, the Netherlands, Croatia, and parts of Asia and America, among others. He was very nice and when he saw that my battery was almost empty, he just gave me his powerbank. At the end, he thanked me for the conversation and said to me, "See you later, sweetheart!" 😂 That was the cherry on top of the designations. 😅

So, all in all, I had a good trip! 🥰 I'm excited to explore Virginia! ;D

I'll definitely check in again and keep you updated!

See you later, sweetheart! 😜
