Flora, fauna and family

We said yes yesterday evening. And that means Marti picks us up at the ungodly hour of 7.20 am. We're going for breakfast in Sterling. There we'll meet Ande, my host brother, and his two daughters. So we slip out of bed early, get ready, and we're already ready for pick up on time... But no Marti. I check the time on my phone... 7.20 am... that's right. Then I see the little plane symbol and a suspicion creeps up on me. The phone hasn't registered the 30-minute time difference yet... it's 7.20 am in Sydney, but 6.50 am in Adelaide. Now we have unexpected time for a cup of coffee... but the doll is not exactly thrilled...

When it's really 7.20 am, Marti picks us up and we start our work for the day. More news is exchanged and delicious food is eaten during breakfast... all gluten-free.

After that, we head towards Victor Harbor to see kangaroos and koalas. We skip the swimming stop this time... Adelaide is showing its cool side... 18 degrees. After the 36 degrees in Sydney, this is particularly unpleasant.

And now we're off to feed the kangaroos... some of them are quite greedy and Rüdiger doesn't quite share my enthusiasm. While stroking the koala, we wonder if it annoys the little bear... but then again, he doesn't let it bother him during his meal.

On the way to Victor Harbor, we quickly do a wine tasting. Contrary to our usual habits, we buy a red wine. Kangaroo Island Shiraz 2018... probably the last one of its kind. Unfortunately, the vineyard has been destroyed by bushfires.

Victor Harbor is a delightful coastal town and holiday spot for the city dwellers of Adelaide. We stroll around, drink coffee, and take it easy. We're starting to feel the effects of the short night, so we head back. We still have to visit Marti's new home, she moved into a retirement unit 3 years ago... downsizing is the appropriate keyword here. Very nice, 3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom, and a spacious backyard.

Before we part ways again, we have dinner at an Aussie pub. Even though there's still much to talk about, it's time to go back to the hotel... because tomorrow we have to catch a plane again! We could have spared ourselves the rental car this time! We completely missed the fact that Marti got an SUV that can also transport us and our luggage. We'll know for next time... and now, off to bed!
