Dulwich Art Festival

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 08.06.2023

The 'Dulwich Art Festival' recently took place in the Dulwich area. This festival is meant to discover and get to know artists from the neighborhood. The so-called 'Open houses' took place over two weekends. This year, even an anniversary was celebrated. 30 years of the Dulwich Art Festival.

Every year, around 200-300 artists participate, opening their own houses and exhibiting their art in their own living rooms, kitchens, or workshops. Everyone is invited to admire the art, have the opportunity to ask the artist questions, and, if desired, purchase the art.
Besides the art, I find it equally interesting how the artists live. I'm always very curious about that and find it fascinating what so many different people do with their living space.

With 200-300 artists, there is a lot to discover. In addition to paintings created using various techniques, you could also find works made of wood, clay, and ceramics, graffiti, floristry, sculptures made of various materials, homemade items, collections (such as signs), photographs, and much more.

This year, art could be discovered in eight different neighborhoods in and around Dulwich. On the first weekend alone, I spent a total of about nine hours admiring art and, in addition to discovering new artists, I also got to know my own neighborhood a little better. I walked through streets that I had never seen before, got a new impression of my neighborhoods, and had some aha moments (ah, now I'm here).
In addition, I also took a step out of my comfort zone and dared to knock on the doors of complete strangers and talk to the strangers behind the doors.

With this, you can now get a small insight into the art scene around me. The photos in this post were among my favorites, and who knows, maybe one day one of such artworks will hang in my own four walls.
In any case, I'm looking forward to next year, and maybe new artists or new artworks will be added.
