Tag 103: it can't get any more northern

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 17.06.2018

I was particularly excited about today because we will be visiting the northernmost point of Vietnam. This is basically the main goal of our motorcycle tour. We set off early and made slow progress because we stopped every few kilometers to take photos or simply admire the landscape. Unfortunately, it started raining harder after an hour, so we had to take a tea break in a small shelter, completely soaked. We changed our plan and took the direct route to the next city. We checked into the hotel there at 12 o'clock and tried to dry our things as best as possible. After lunch, the clouds cleared and the rain subsided. So we set off from here to the northernmost point of Vietnam. However, the road there was dotted with construction sites and bad gravel roads that are still under construction. With completely dirty motorcycles, we reached a large tower on a hill, which represents the northernmost point. With the panoramic view of China, we felt very proud to have reached our "goal". However, we had to hurry and quickly make our way back, otherwise it would be tight to reach our hotel before dark. As we approached a construction site, we discovered that the road was closed for a while due to an explosion. So we waited there and hoped to get home before dark. While we were waiting, we noticed that the Chinese border is only 50 meters away and there is a small path leading there... After a short trip, the road was clear again and luckily we drove back to the hotel in daylight. In the evening, we met the four Americans from the previous day for a joint dinner, as they were staying in the same hotel as us.
