The rain on the roof hasn't stopped and continues to persist, I don't want to imagine how it looks further down in Spain, the campsite by the sea is probably completely flooded...!
In the morning dog walk, Jörni manages to get two coffees at the tennis club, very good! We quickly retreat into the bus and hope that the rain will stop soon... but it doesn't! So we drive off in the rain and decide to go to Figueres, which is about 30 km away, to visit the Dalí Museum. We haven't been to the museum in a long time and in this weather, it's a good change! Luckily, we find a parking spot nearby, because the museum is located in the middle of the city, by the way, it is hard to miss, just follow the eggs.
It's not cheap, but definitely worth a visit. An incredible building, completely winding and filled from top to bottom with Dalí's artwork. What a crazy guy...! I actually wanted to visit his house on the coast, but you can only get in with a personal tour and you have to book the tickets weeks in advance... too bad! But the Theater-Museum in Figueres is also fascinating!
Afterwards, we buy some food and continue. Our destination is St. Rome-de-Tarn, which is still over 200 km away. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find a campsite, the exact opposite of the south!
When we leave the city, we see the trucks lining up at the highway entrance, the GPS suggests an alternative route through the Pampas, as everything is also stuck on the highway, which runs parallel to the main road... what's going on here? So we take a few detours and then stick to the main road, as there is still traffic jam on the highway. Once again, there are hundreds of trucks everywhere... where do they come from? We suspect that they couldn't drive the day before because of the bad weather and now they're all trying at the same time.
We cross the border into France and can't believe our eyes... about 30 cm of snow, cars are snowed in and snow piles up on the sides of the roads... that's why nothing was going on here yesterday. We continue on the main road through snowy mountains... they're definitely not used to this here...! But everything is already melting again and we make good progress. For a change, it starts raining again a little bit. We then continue on the A75 towards Millau. It's starting to get dark and the beautiful mountains can only be seen halfway, before we take a few country roads in the dark to the campsite in St. Rome-de-Tarn. The place is supposed to be open all year round and the reception is supposed to be open until 7pm. When we arrive, it's 6:30pm and everything is pitch black and there doesn't seem to be anything open... hmmmm...! We are instructed to ring the bell at the closed door and luckily we get a response and are told that someone will be there in 10 minutes... ok...! Then a taxi arrives, which stops in front of the reception and turns out to be the owner of the campsite...! We are welcomed very friendly and can check in, we can choose a spot ourselves, as there is no one else to be seen and we immediately park by the beautiful river, we assume that it is beautiful because we can't see anything anymore, it's as dark as a bear's ass here!
At least it's dry and we can sit in front of the bus for a little while, but slowly you can tell that you are no longer in the south and that it is January and that it is quite cold!
So quickly eat a sandwich and into the bus!
