Today we have the drive to Cape Jervis on the agenda, because at 4:00 pm our ferry 'Sealink' departs from there to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island (KI). We skip breakfast and head straight for the 410km drive (about 5 hours). The weather is in our favor, as it is 14 degrees and raining. Nothing to miss.
The drive passes quickly with music and audio books. We also make a quick breakfast stop, shopping, and refueling. It's better to be well-prepared so that we don't have to chase after everything on the island.
We arrive at Cape exactly 1 hour before the scheduled departure. Check-in, organize coffee, and then it's time to board the ferry. While only one person is allowed to drive the vehicle onto the ferry, Sarah has to board as a pedestrian. Marco will be in Yoshi at 3:30 pm when the loading starts. However, due to the size of the vehicle, we are allowed to board last. Marco is finally on board at 4:15 pm - to the relief of both :)
The crossing is very wavy and the ship rocks noticeably. We find a spot on the upper deck with fresh air and enjoy the 50-minute journey. And then we set foot, or rather tire, on the island. Welcome Yoshi to KI.
We have previously looked up all the campsites and head to Brown Beach - one of the seven sites provided by the island administration. They are very basic with toilets and showers, and you have to buy a ticket for the site at the machine. That's all. And so we spend the night for the first time on the small island next to the big one.
