A 30 in Torres del Paine National Park

After a long search for a reasonably insured rental car in Puerto Natales, and the rental of camping equipment and stocking up on food for a few days of wilderness, we set off to Torres del Paine National Park. Unfortunately, it rained continuously on the first day and after our first short hike, we got soaked and made our way to the campsite. Luckily, there was a cozy restaurant where we could warm up. We spent the night in the trunk of our rental car and fell asleep despite the cold after a few birthday beers. On Jonas' birthday, the sun came out and we were able to admire a lot of beautiful scenery with three short hikes. We couldn't get enough of the turquoise water contrasting with the snow-covered mountains. After another night in the rental car, which was even colder, blue sky greeted us early in the morning. Our hike to Base de las Torres took us through spring-like forests and snowy meadows to a beautiful view of the towers and a lake. It reminded us a little of the Dolomites...

After the eight-hour hike, we decided not to spend another night in the car and headed back to Puerto Natales, where we made up for the birthday meal with a hearty barbecue.
