In addition to the Weta Caves, we also visited an original filming location from The Lord of the Rings. The scene where the hobbits flee from the Black Riders in the Shire and hide under a large tree root was filmed in a city park in Wellington. What looks like a rustic forest is actually a small city park located right next to residential houses. The park is situated on the slopes of Mount Victoria. We walked up to the top of the mountain to a large viewing platform. From there, we had a great view of Wellington.
On the evening before our ferry departure, there was a night market in Wellington. There was street music, a few dances, and many food stalls. The next day, Chinese New Year was celebrated, which is why colorful lanterns were lit up everywhere.
