Cambodia

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 25.11.2018

After a tiring day of exploring Bangkok, in the evening I met my travel group. From the beginning, we were a great team with a lot to talk about. We were made up of 7 British and British women, a Dutch woman, and myself. Our tour guide 'PC' is Thai, super funny and entertaining.

The next morning, the journey started really early towards the border. The first impression of Cambodia was not very positive. Special, unpleasant smells, many poor people, most of them children, and a lot of dirt.

However, the people were very friendly and after arriving at the hotel and taking a shower, we went straight to dinner. We were allowed to visit a children's aid project supported by 'g adventure'. After dinner, we had the opportunity to play with the kids.

On the following day, we drove to Angkor Wat at 5 a.m. and watched the temple complex at sunrise. In the afternoon, we visited the floating village and a crocodile farm.

In Phnom Penh, we were able to visit the traces of the Khmer Rouge regime and were shocked! I was not aware of everything that happened back then! To recover from the impressions, we spent our free afternoon sightseeing and eating ice cream.

The last stop was Sihanoukville on the coast. There we had the opportunity to relax on the beach and recover from the long bus rides. But even at this 'beach resort', the two sides of Cambodia are incredibly opposite. The beach is clean and beautiful, and 10 meters behind it, there are rundown buildings with garbage heaps.
