Hello everyone!
It's slowly but surely becoming summer here! Last week, the temperatures climbed to over 30 degrees!
Perfect opportunity to meet other au pairs at the beach! I've already made a few more social contacts. 3 other German girls live not far from me and it's sometimes really helpful to exchange ideas with people in a similar situation! Especially when you have a little low, like I did last week! I was sick, suddenly didn't feel well anymore, and suddenly everything here was too much for me :/ I missed my freedoms from Freiburg and realized that I definitely need to change something! Luckily, through conversations with the girls and making plans (for a weekend in Sydney, for example) and also talking to my host mom, I quickly got everything back on track and started the new week with renewed energy and recharged batteries! Now I go jogging outside at least every other morning before work! It really feels good, I leave the house more often and can explore the surrounding area on foot! Just this morning I discovered the following beautiful corner:
The boys are quite a challenge at the moment. Jett is currently in a 'state of change' and is therefore very easily triggered. That means he always wants to do everything himself, which is sometimes really difficult to implement (best example: he wants to close the car door, but the car is parked on a busy road and it is almost impossible to let him close the door. The next 10-15 minutes he will cry and replay the situation over and over again, and this happens in soooo many everyday situations!) I'm learning a lot and above all, I'm learning to endure these situations with him!
Nevertheless, we also have incredibly funny moments, because sometimes you can have a lot of fun with simple things: the boys love it when I chase after them and then throw dish towels over their heads, which they then shake off! Or we also made 'pirate hats' out of the dish towels!
I think these highs and lows are part of my stay and will help me better deal with tricky situations and hopefully strengthen me in the long term.
In that sense, I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
