Railay Peninsula

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 13.04.2019

Thanks to the direct shuttle service from the lake pier to the pier, from where we wanted to reach our next destination, we arrived at 14:45. After 55 minutes of waiting, the 'ferry' (consisting of two wooden boats departing at the same time) set off towards Railay Peninsula.

First impressions: a very touristy place consisting only of resorts and no local accommodations (the employees all come by boat in the mornings). We checked into our resort where we got a slightly run-down but cute bungalow.

The paths on Railay are short, so we walked to the west beach within 10 minutes through a cute little street. Our resort was located on the east beach, which was not usable due to low tide and boat traffic. Even in the west, only a small part is reserved for swimming, the rest is also occupied by (noisy) boats. Railay is made up of many rocks, which are a paradise for climbers and look nice for everyone else. After a dream sunset, we went back to the resort to shower and freshen up. There, I encountered the first indoor cockroach when I moved the trash can a little to the side - eeeeew...

Next door, we found a nice spot in a treehouse bar with great live music and an exciting atmosphere.

Delicious rice and a coconut shake on site, however, caused the first stomach problems, but my travel pharmacy was well prepared for that :)

By the way, here is a picture of a Thai toilet. The special features are: 1. You are not allowed to throw paper into the toilet, but into the bucket next to it, and 2. There is always a small 'shower' next to it, which in my opinion always leads to a huge water fight in the bathroom for the unexperienced...

I started the only full day on Railay wonderfully well-rested and with a breakfast with a sea view.

For a change, we planned to visit the south beach 'Pranang' of the peninsula. An adventurous path along caves and free-roaming monkeys led us there. The viewpoint, which we had considered going to, turned into a climbing trail from there, so we quickly discarded the idea.

Unfortunately, the beautiful beach was increasingly 'swallowed' by the tide, so we had to switch to the West Beach.

After a delicious mango sticky rice for lunch and a lot of sun, Lisa was visibly exhausted from the heat, so we went back to the hotel and returned to the beautiful sunset at the West Beach. On the way, we also picked up our fragrant and folded laundry.

We found a delicious and cheap dinner in the shopping street with great plastic chair ambiance ;) (you have to make some compromises somewhere).

We often spend the evenings on our phones because there is only Wi-Fi in the hotel or restaurants. But we both do not regret the decision of not buying a SIM card, as it allows us to spend some time away from our phones. We find our way using a map or asking people :)

By the way, I found my favorite flower here :) petals always fall off, which you can then stick in your hair.

I wonder what it
