Our tour today took us from Christchurch to Rakia Gorge, Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki to Twizel. What can I say... The Scenic Route got its name for a reason. When New Zealanders describe their already stunning landscape as scenic, it can only blow you away. First, we crossed the valley named Rakia Gorge. Here you get a small taste of the incredibly beautiful nature surrounding the glacier lakes. Lake Tekapo is bordered to the west by the New Zealand Alps. The panorama is simply beautiful. The turquoise of the lakes is so intense in the sun that it almost seems unreal. Here is also the smallest church in New Zealand 'The Church of the Good Shepherd'. Instead of a picture of a church, you are directly facing the lake and the mountains. The weather was perfect again today with lots of sun and 25 degrees Celsius. Our accommodation today is located in the small town of Twizel, about 50 km from Mount Cook. From there, we want to go on a hike tomorrow to have another view of the lake area from above. We have chosen the 3-hour tour on the Hooker Valley Track. To avoid the crowds of tourists, we will start early. We will report on how it went tomorrow.
