After about 2 hours train ride, we arrived in Ayutthaya. From the train station, we took a small ferry across the river and then went to the hostel in the 'Backpacker' street. The room was not great, but sufficient for one night. We could rent two rickety bicycles directly at the hostel and cycled from temple to temple for almost 4 hours.
The temples looked different from those in Bangkok, some of them were more like ruins, but still very impressive! In one temple, you can see a Buddha head in the middle of the tree roots, which obviously grew around it.
We also saw a Buddha statue that was 16 meters tall in total.
For sunset, we went to a more remote temple, where we were all alone... along with Philip's baseball cap ;-)
Overall, the temples here looked different and it was less crowded than in Bangkok.
With the last daylight (the bikes, of course, had no lights), we went back to the hostel and took a shower.
In the evening, we had delicious and spicy curry with tofu, and then fries for satisfaction. The portions here are often smaller than what we are used to at home 🙈
The next day, we will continue by train to Phitsanulok, and from there we will take the bus to Sukhothai.
