Portsea 09.01.-20.01.2019

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 25.01.2019

The kids are still on summer vacation and my host family went to Portsea on holiday on December 27, 2018. Since Jono, my host dad, had to go back to Melbourne for work on January 9th, he took me to Portsea on that day.

In Portsea, my host family rented a house with 4 other families. When we arrived there, Jono showed me the house where I would be sleeping with Millie, as dogs were not allowed in the other house. My host family bought the house last year, but it hasn't been renovated yet. It's a bit older, but perfectly adequate for sleeping. Then I went with my host dad to the other house where the 4 families were staying, which is only 5 minutes away from the other house.

The house was huge, really modern and beautifully decorated. Of course, the house also had its own huge pool and tennis court. There were a total of 10 children (between 6 and 11) and 8 adults in the house. After I got to know the hustle and bustle there, I was glad that I could find some peace in the other house. However, my hope of not having to take care of all 10 children alone quickly vanished. The next day, I was supposed to watch over all the children during lunchtime because the parents wanted to go out to eat. Luckily, that changed last minute and instead, the children and I went out to eat with the daddies. That was definitely more pleasant. But on Saturday, the day finally came when I had to take care of the lot from 11 am to 8 pm. Since the parents also realized that it could be a bit tiring for me alone, they called another babysitter, which I was very grateful for. That day was really exhausting and I was relieved when the parents came back home. Also, I only had to babysit twice in the evenings and once I went to the movies with 9 children, but it went better than expected.

We were really lucky with the weather during that time. It was always between 26 and 32 degrees and it only rained one day. So every morning, I took a long walk with Millie, either to the beach or to the dog park. In the afternoon, I usually walked to the other house and had dinner there with the families.

On January 20, we went back to Brighton. Now the kids have another week of vacation and will go back to school at the end of January.
