The remaining distance to Aktobe was again, with some exceptions, very well passable. I set off at 8:00 AM after having some coffee. I intended to have breakfast at a rest area with a gas station along the way. However, a classic breakfast is hardly to be found here. The local breakfast is more akin to a substantial lunch for us. Nevertheless, I was able to find a somewhat decent coffee and two pastries. Together with the apples and bananas I had bought the day before, it was quite acceptable. The landscape changed between arable land, areas covered with bushes and shrubs, and very dry patches, only occasionally dotted with tufts of grass. Here and there, ponds and smaller lakes appeared. I reached Aktobe in the early afternoon. After I had booked and settled into accommodation, I went on an exploration tour through the city. My first impression: Not a city that you absolutely must visit. Let's see if that changes tomorrow. For the first time in a long while, I had a television with English-speaking channels (BBC, France24) in my room. One channel even showed a broadcast of the Wolfsburg - Bayern game. Tomorrow, I will continue to explore the city before heading towards Atyrau.
