Day 5+6: Arriving in Pasadena and Los Angeles

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 18.10.2019

Yesterday was the very big, highly anticipated day when we started our journey to Los Angeles (possibly known from movies and TV 😎). We spent eight hours driving through the desert, which turned out to be more impressive than expected. After arriving at the hotel in Pasadena, we were once again allowed to spend the evening, as you can imagine, in the whirlpool and also eating well.

Due to limited space in the hotel, the rehearsal was moved to a church this morning. It was very beautiful and productive, even though some of our voices were temporarily affected by the travel strains and air conditioning. We're staying focused and resisting the temptation to jump into the Pacific Ocean at dusk and ride a scooter with wet hair for four hours back to Pasadena.

After the rehearsal, our free day in Los Angeles began, for most of us with a long journey. In less time than it took us to travel from the hotel in Pasadena to Hollywood, one could have taken a regional express train from Leipzig to Dresden. So you can imagine that it's important to plan what to do in Los Angeles for just one day. If you haven't planned anything due to being overwhelmed, you can take the next metro (similar to S-Bahn) to a station with the name 'Hollywood' in it. Then emerge from the subway toward the Pantages Theatre and stumble upon a red Kate Winslet star. You can stroll along the boulevard, visit cheesy souvenir shops, take photos with your favorite stars, and see the 'HOLLYWOOD' sign in the distance on the hill.

Then these things, which you never thought you would see in real life, somehow lose their magic and you find yourself strangely unimpressed while waiting at the traffic lights on the Walk of Fame. But you still enjoy the feeling that making music never loses its magic and concerts in other places are and remain magical because you hope to leave a lasting impression on people and experience a special moment together with strangers. And then you criticize yourself for being cheesy. Yes, that was a Hollywood thought.

Nevertheless, a huge city is always impressive, especially a city where so many different people come together. After experiencing the sunset at the Santa Monica Pier with perfect timing, we were exhausted on the way back, both full of inspiration and fatigue. Who can process so many faces, places, and ideas? Now we need a whirlpool and some sleep.
