Welcome to Morocco

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 01.04.2019

My backpack from Nepal is not completely unpacked yet and I've already packed the next one. A friend from India, Arshiya, is currently in Morocco and has been teaching English in an after-school program here. She wants to travel around the country for the next two weeks, and I've been wanting to visit Morocco for a long time, so now I'm here and traveling with her.

After almost missing a flight for the first time in my life, I landed in Casablanca in the middle of the night. And by the time I got to bed, it was around 4 or 5 in the morning. So this morning, I slept in.

At noon, we went to meet up with Maria from Italy, who lives in the same apartment. We took the tram all the way across Casablanca, including a city tour. Hajra is from Morocco, knows the other two from the English teaching project, and invited us to have lunch with her.

But first, we had tea and plenty of snacks. That's the first thing that comes to the table when you have guests. Hajra and her mother are super nice and hospitable. In between, we also tried on traditional Moroccan clothes, while Hajra wore an Indian saree. Later, we had a proper meal. And Hajra tells us a bit about her culture. Her ancestors came more from the Sahara region. Quite fascinating. In the evening, we say goodbye, full and happy.

From there, we went to the tallest building in the city, to a fancy bar. The complete opposite, but a beautiful view.

So for not even 24 hours in Morocco, there have been quite a lot of impressions. And so far, it's less about traveling and more about visiting friends and making new ones.
