Arrowtown - Wine enjoyment and cycling

Finally some sunshine! The tour back to Lake Wakatipu was breathtaking, you could have stopped to take photos constantly. We bypassed Queenstown and headed to our next destination, Arrowtown, a small town about 20 km from Queenstown. We stayed for 2 days at a very tidy and centrally located campsite. The town is also quite touristy, but not as crowded and has a pleasant atmosphere with many old wooden houses.

We swapped our motorcycles for bicycles without engines for a day and took a day trip with mountain bikes along the Gibbston River Track, which passes several wineries. A very nice tour on a gravel bike path away from the main roads, crossing several suspension bridges along the river, which meanders through deep gorges. And one of these bridges is quite famous because bungee jumping was invented here over 25 years ago. In the meantime, this has become a real event center, and spectators stand on a large grandstand-like platform and can watch the brave ones plunge into the depths with a loud scream. Just looking at it made me sick, and I still don't understand why people spend a lot of money on such things.

We preferred to stop at 2 wineries and enjoyed a few sips of more or less tasty wines. Wine enjoyment is cultivated here, but still celebrated in a relaxed manner. Fortunately, the tastings only offered small quantities, as the way back was quite challenging due to strong headwinds. Well, we arrived back in Arrowtown quite exhausted, and the alcohol was certainly burned off.
