3 days backpacking

પ્રકાશિત: 16.02.2017

8.1.2017 to 10.1.2017

Fjordland is a huge national park that is mostly inaccessible by car. One of the great things to do there is hiking.

We didn't plan our hike in advance: as always, we chose a free camping site and there was a map with huts and hiking trails nearby. We took a day off first and the next day we headed to Green Lake Hut. By the way, there were only three of us, two of us were not very enthusiastic about hiking.

We changed our original plan on the way there: we actually wanted to continue to the next hut the next day, but we underestimated the hiking trails...
At first, it was a nice and easy walk through the woods for about 10 minutes, and then it became either steep uphill or downhill. Sometimes we had to walk through big mud holes, cross a river, walk along a river (on the stones in the river), go over or under fallen trees, and sometimes even through a fallen tree.

Our camping site, our starting point, is where the arrow is.

We were rewarded with this hut, where we had real mattresses, plenty of space, a fireplace, and of course the view.

The next day we did a slightly smaller hike to the next lake and returned to the same hut. And then we went back the way we came from on the first day, but this time in great weather :-)
And the return hike was not as strenuous as the first day, as it was mostly downhill. The way there (5 hours) was already really exhausting.

Although we didn't do the most impressive walk in Fjordland and for a long time there were only woods instead of impressive mountains around us, it was still a very good experience for me and I'm glad I found people to travel with who are just as interested in it as I am.
