🇲🇾 Pulau Pangkor/ Pangkor Island (4th stop on world trip)

પ્રકાશિત: 12.01.2023

The island (Malay: Pulau) Pangkor was recommended to us by locals in Malacca, it belongs to the state of Perak. We were not familiar with the island before. In total, we stayed for 12 nights and spent Christmas and New Year here. From the coastal town of Lumut, you take the ferry to get here, which usually runs every 45-60 minutes and the crossing takes less than 30 minutes. When you arrive on Pangkor, the taxi drivers are already waiting for the newcomers, in their striking pink taxis that are hard to miss.

Pangkor Island seems to be relatively unknown, it is considered a insider tip, when we were there from 21.12.22 to 02.01.23, we hardly saw any Europeans here. During the holidays, locals mainly spend their vacation here with their families.

We can't say anything bad about our stay, quite the opposite. We had a nice Airbnb with a great location in Pasir Bogak, everything important was within walking distance: a supermarket, food stalls, a laundromat, a 7Eleven, a scooter rental, and various restaurants. For one day, we rented a scooter and explored and circled the island, which didn't take long :) Pangkor is only 12km long and 4km wide. You can see countless monkeys 🐒 in nature and hornbills. We also drove to the beautiful Coral Beach with the scooter and stopped where we liked it.

We also have the habit of returning to places where you can eat well, the prices are right, and the people are friendly. So we were often greeted from afar by people or waved at. Just great. We felt really comfortable on Pangkor!

The beaches were great, super beautiful and clean, and the sea had bathtub temperature, and there were a few wonderful sunsets for free. There wasn't a single crowded day during our stay, as you know it from Langkawi, for example.

We left the island on January 2nd, and we continued with the bus from Lumut to Ipoh.
