We had the entire month of December off and wanted to see more of our surroundings. So we rented cars and set off. We had two 4x4 cars with rooftop tents and went on a road trip.
On December 5th, we set off from Windhoek, it was very exciting to drive a car again after three months and even more so on the left side of the road. But it was easier than I thought and after loading our luggage at home, we headed to Ghanzi. Ghanzi is already in Botswana. After a few hours of driving, we arrived there and had a great campsite with a large waterhole. Setting up the tents for the first time was a bit difficult but it worked out well.
We continued to the Okavango Delta with another stopover. We stayed at a campsite called 'kakanaxa', which was in the heart of the Okavango Delta. After a seven-hour drive and 120 km, we arrived there safely. On the way, we saw countless animals such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, kudus, oryxes, monkeys, and so on.
After three days, we moved on to the next national park to Camp Dijara. There were only very basic toilets, buckets for showers, and a lot of hippos, elephants, baboons, and especially lions. The symphony of sounds was simply breathtaking. A lion roared, a hippo grazed next to the car, and in the distance, you could hear the elephants.
After two nights, we headed to the next campsite. We saw countless elephants again, it had rained unimaginably, and the road we had to drive on the next day partly looked more like a lake. After some hesitation, it turned out to be a lot of fun to drive through it.
Afterwards, we spent several nights in a beautiful hostel in Livingstone, Zambia, admired Victoria Falls, and then made our way back to Windhoek with four stopovers. Just take a look at the pictures and if you have any questions or want to know more about the tour we did, feel free to contact me. (l.he3@gmx.de)
