Koh Chang - The Elephant Island

Oñemoherakuãva: 02.02.2019

After a five-hour journey in a well-equipped and comfortable minibus - by far the most modern minibus we have ever had in Asia - we reached the ferry terminal near Trat. The crossing was pleasant and lasted about half an hour. According to Swiss standards, the ferry would have been decommissioned more than twenty years ago. As long as we can spend the journey on the upper deck, we don't really care.

On the other side, the driver took us directly to our hotel. There we checked into our rooms and then explored the surroundings. The refreshing swim in the hotel pool was a real treat after this long journey. Refreshed, we went to dinner. We ordered white snapper and various other dishes - they were excellently prepared! In general, the seafood as well as the other food in Thailand is exquisite.

Over the next three days, we visited different beaches and the Klong Plu waterfall. On the first day, we paddled with the kayak to the hotel's beach. Our hotel is located at the mouth of the Klong Prao river, which leads to the sea and gives the place its name. We took a walk along the beautiful white beach and enjoyed swimming in the clear sea. The water temperature is about 28 degrees.

On the second day, we rented scooters and explored the southwestern part of the island. At the tip of the island, we discovered the beautiful Bangbao Beach. The roads on Koh Chang are narrow and steep. Our scooters were sometimes running at their limit when going uphill. We ended the evening with a meal in a nice beach restaurant.

We spent the last days again at the hotel's beach. We grabbed a sun lounger and enjoyed a quiet day at the beach. In the afternoon, we treated ourselves to traditional Thai massages right on the beach. For dinner, we went to the nearby town.

Today the journey continues to Koh Samui.
