Nature = Healing

Foillsichte: 12.01.2022

The days fly by so quickly, especially when there is no plan. But when there is a plan, something else always comes up unexpectedly and we are in the here and now. In the moment. But when we look at photos, it's always the impressions that we capture here that fill the day.

Yesterday we were in Ousman Sonko's garden and received a little organic farming lesson. They fertilize with a mixture of cow dung, mango leaves, and water. The well is cleaned weekly with a bottle of chlorine to eliminate bacteria. The water is also used for drinking. The further the wells are built in the village, the deeper they have to be. Water is very scarce. And it's really sad to see that not all people have access to clean drinking water. Ousman grows onions, papayas, and especially cassava in his garden. Cassava is a very nutritious root vegetable. Both the leaves and especially the root have healing properties. It doesn't require any additional water and loves sandy soil. Organic farming is Ousman's passion. Without any chemicals, he protects his plants from insects and harvests more abundantly than farmers who only rely on chemical pesticides.

A government support program helps women learn this type of farming so they can have a secure monthly income. Ousman got the dog to protect the property from monkeys and thieves.

In the afternoon, Emil was highly motivated to harvest the baobab tree on our property. Baobab is Senegal's little pharmacy.
