After yesterday's trip to the neighboring community, today we explore the surrounding area of Chiang Mai. Specifically, we first go to the Huay Kaew Waterfall, which is about 10 minutes away. This is a waterfall that also originates in the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park.
During the ten-minute drive, we are stopped twice by police checkpoints. At each checkpoint, there are a few paying tourists and presumably decommissioned scooters. Our driver's license is even shown to a group of tourists as an example of the necessary documents. However, since everything is in order, we are allowed to continue driving quickly both times.
When we arrive at the waterfall, we are surprised that admission is free and yet there are relatively few tourists. The waterfall has less water than the river yesterday, but it is still worth seeing due to its large drop height. From the top of the waterfall, you also have a very nice view of the valley and the city. After the visit and a little picnic, we make our way back home.
After a (late) afternoon break at the accommodation, our journey continues. We visit the Wat Sri Suphan temple. The special thing about this temple is its building material, as the temple seems to be almost entirely made of silver. After the visit, we stop at the Chiang Mai Gate Night Food Market on the way back, where we get super Thai food at very reasonable prices.
Then we go home with full stomachs and to bed, as we want to leave early tomorrow morning.
