Toulouse

Foillsichte: 31.10.2023

A quote was handed down from Emperor Augustus that can be reproduced as follows:

From a city of bricks I turned it into a city of marble .

(I do not guarantee the accuracy of my translation!)

As we strolled through the streets with my best friend and her partner, who was born in Toulouse and acted as a kind of "tour guide" for us, I asked myself what Augustus found so great about his performance. BECAUSE Toulouse is the city of red shades, of playing with bricks.

It's nice to see the old, small streets, or the town hall with the arcades in front of it, where important events for the city are recorded on the ceiling. It is also a Romanesque city, a city of half-timbered brick houses and always full of life. Here we are in the south of France, the proximity to Spain is clearly noticeable in the opening times of the shops (with SIESTA!) or the time when someone has lunch.

It is a lively city with several areas where a market takes place every day, a very culturally active city with great exhibitions, for example. B. in the Natural History Museum, etc.

I found it idyllic, of course a little overcrowded on Saturdays, but the good weather meant that a lot of people went into town to shop.

ATTENTION: There are environmental zones in Toulouse, so please check for approval beforehand, because we were lucky when we drove through that the zones' video surveillance is not yet in operation. Christian then ordered a permit and printed out the temporary solution, otherwise I would have had to take the train into the city, which is VERY easy and, above all, extremely cheap. (Unfortunately this is not possible with two four-legged friends!)

Toulouse is only partially dog-friendly, there are numerous dog toilets, BUT four-legged friends are not allowed in the parks...

CONCLUSION Toulouse? Gladly again, I really liked it, it's a young city that thrives on young families and students, there are small, fun cafes and lots of individual shops, explorers are happy here. I bought two comics from a stall so I could polish my French...

It's fun!
