After I sent the first pictures of beautiful Koh Chang to my family back home, my parents formed the wish to escape the pre Christmas craziness and visit me in Thailand. Less than two weeks later they were there! I was glad to see them again after more than four months and to get some of my mom's home made Christmas cookies. :)
Even though, I still had to work a few hours a day at the guesthouse, my parents and I had some time to explore the island together. My parents rented a car and we drove around the island to walk through mangrove woods in the South East of the Island and visit the beautiful Long Beach. The drive there was a little adventurous since the street was narrow and steep. At times I was not sure if our little Toyota would make it over the next hill.
On our remaining days together we enjoyed some spa on Lonely Beach and strolled along the pier of Bang Bao, where we saw a beautiful sunset and ate at Buddha View.
Another highlight in the second half of my stay on Koh Chang was my first dive. I decided to do a discovery dive first, for which one does not need any further knowledge or experience. I was lucky and had the diving instructor, Hanah, all to myself. She was lovely and very patient with me even though I had some problems at first (how weird is it to breathe underwater?!) and later with my ears. But even though I did not go deep, my first dive has been something I will never forget! The underwater world is so fascinating! I was particularly impressed by the Christmas Tree Worms. Those creatures really look like small Christmas trees that come in different colors and vanish into holes if you come too close to them, only to reappear a few moments later.
And then it was time to say goodbye to Koh Chang. I swam in the glowing plankton, enjoyed the beach, and went out one more time. After an amazing last night on the island I got on the minibus to Bangkok in the morning. I left the island sad because I had to leave behind all those amazing people (for now) but also happy and excited for my next adventures.
