Day 4 - Breakfast at Eduardo's, Casa de la Memoria, and Markets

Foilsithe: 21.11.2017

I was just about to clean up this place (see yesterday's report). But the miracle in the form of Sandra (I call her that because I don't know her actual name) came this morning. Well, the modern student has personnel... Sandra apparently comes once a week to clean, wash beddings, and change towels. Noble, noble, one more time and everything would be fine 😊

We spent our last day in Medellin in a relaxed manner. We went to have breakfast in our neighborhood of Envigado. Elena from Switzerland also joined us. We had a great time and tried out everything that was available. Top of the line, although quite pricey for local standards. It cost 80,000 Pesos for the three of us, including tip – that's about 20 €.

Afterwards, we strolled around the city a bit. Everything is now adorned with super kitschy Christmas decorations. However, at 25° C in the shade, everything seems a bit surreal.

Next on the itinerary was the "Museo Casa de la Memoria." It's a small but very informative museum about the history of Medellin from 1950 to today. It's quite shocking what happened here. You really have to wonder how there are people who have lived to be over 60 years old. Apparently, not many people died a natural death during the "hot" years.

Afterwards, we engaged in one of our favorite activities: looking at and buying food. Adami-Shopping: Market hall, various supermarkets, and small shops in a somewhat remote neighborhood. Rarely does a tourist venture here.

Back home, showered, and packed our things. Then we ate the groceries - a little bit of sweets, unknown fruits, and familiar papayas and melons.

The alarm will ring tomorrow at 6:00 am, and boarding is at 7:50 am for Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast. Even though a punctual departure is rather unlikely, we'll stick to German punctuality.

We're traveling with only carry-on luggage. In 5 days, we'll be back here for the onward journey south. We left our "big luggage" at Cody's place. You don't know Cody? Apparently, everyone here does - at least every foreign student does. He's an American who has been living here for 4 years. He seemed competent... but he can definitely take care of our backpacks 😂. We've made plans to have dinner on November 27th, then I can tell you more about Cody.

¡Hasta luego!
