Waiheke Island and Coromandel

Publisearre: 15.12.2016

On Friday, we spent the whole day on the road to get to Auckland. Once we arrived there, we started eating pasta with tomato sauce again, which I really didn't miss.

Auckland welcomed us on Saturday with pouring rain, so we only did some shopping and relaxed a bit. On Sunday morning, we took the ferry to Waiheke Island and did the Coastal Walk, which took about 2 1/2 hours and was quite a challenge with its constant ups and downs. But it was definitely worth it for the beautiful beach views. When we arrived in Oneroa, we treated ourselves to a snack in a cute café and then returned to the ferry and headed back to Auckland in the afternoon, as the weather had unfortunately turned. But until then, we were lucky with the weather and the visit was definitely worth it!

Our nights in Auckland were also very fun and very long, so we are now happy to be in a quiet place again.

On Monday, we drove to Hahei, a small town southeast of Auckland, continuing our journey here.

The hostel we stayed at is called Tatahi Lodge and is a family-run business, which has always been the most beautiful in our experience so far, and this time was no exception. Cute rooms, clean, spacious showers, and a nice outdoor area where you can let your thoughts wander and let the sun kiss you 🌴☀️

On Tuesday, we hitchhiked to Hot Water Beach, famous for its underground thermal springs. During low tide, you can dig in a certain area and then have a small warm pool. We spent 2 hours here, sunbathing and enjoying the warm water. Then we hitchhiked to Cathedral Cove, a very famous beach in the area with this beautiful bay. By this time, it was already afternoon and we actually walked back. It was a beautiful day.

Today, we are continuing to Rotorua, let's see what this city has to offer!
