3rd Day - Carnival

Publié: 11.02.2018

Slowly but surely I'm getting used to Brazilian times - which means that you don't get up before 10 am; rushing is an unknown word, breakfast is at 12. If it says we leave at 1 pm, that means we slowly get ready around 3:30 pm. So the first half of today was spent lazing around and eating - which was actually quite nice. Today was CARNIVAL - the event that Brazilians wait for all year - and you can tell. Men are traditionally dressed as women and women throw tons of glitter of all colors on themselves (which you can't get off even after showering twice). Downtown was full of people, celebrating with live music and of course lots of Cachaca (sugar cane liquor). The Brazilians seem to like blondes a lot, which is why it felt like every other person wanted to talk to us. However, our host Bruno was always there when someone annoyed us. Carnival in Brazil is a true experience - there's no other way to describe it. Today we met so many crazy people - from a 50-year-old who thinks she's 20 to a Japanese Brazilian who would like to live in Germany. After an adventurous car ride (Brazilian traffic takes some getting used to) and a midnight snack, it was time to go to bed. Lesson learned of the day: Don't worry when it's Carnival.
