The largest city in South America and the fifth largest metropolitan area in the world. I expected a big city, but Sao Paulo is a mega city. A true monster! Around 21 million people live in the metropolitan area, countless skyscrapers, and congested streets with too much traffic.
Despite all the hustle and bustle, we find peace and relaxation in the city's largest park. There are first-class museums, theaters, and cultural centers to visit in the city center. I particularly like the neighborhood "Beco do Batman". Here, all walls, fences, and building facades are painted with street art murals. Countless works of art shape the whole neighborhood, new pictures appear behind every street corner. We stroll around for hours, taking photos and being fascinated by the beautiful art.
On Sundays, the 6-lane main road is closed to cars, concerts are taking place everywhere, the shops are open, and additional street markets are selling Christmas gifts. I have never seen so many people and so much hustle and bustle.
In the evening, we visit a light show, and for the first time, we feel the Christmas atmosphere in over 30 degrees. With popcorn "Pipoca", which is sold everywhere on the roadside, we enjoy the performances and listen to Christmas songs.
