Day of the Churches

Publié: 21.09.2018

This morning we started at 5 am with Irina CZ. Now we are only following the fast ones from our group, Massimo (IT) and Learcio (BRA). We have left everyone else behind. We spent nearly 3 hours with a flashlight on our forehead and then experienced a beautiful sunrise. I often think of our little Leonie here. On the last day before leaving, my niece asked me what I would eat here. If I will only eat berries and such. She wasn't entirely wrong. Wild blackberries grow everywhere along the roadside. Otherwise, there are countless figs, almonds, plums, apples, peaches, and of course, grapes to pick. Right now, everything is ripe and sweet. If it wasn't so hot here at noon, we wouldn't have to start so early. Fiona was great again today. The midday heat was just not nice for her. She is exhausted after 28 km. Today, I saw the first bloody and popped blisters on other pilgrims and saw a wobbly big toenail that will soon fall off. Fiona's pads are well blooded and swollen again, but otherwise, everything is fine. My feet are also okay.

Today we visited 4 churches. One of them is not ordinary, it is abandoned but always open. There are many letters from pilgrims with various stories there. A very spiritual place.

By 1 pm, we were already at the destination and there is a fortress 20 minutes uphill from there. After a nap, we went there with Irina as well. Fiona slept for a long time.

Tomorrow we only have the option to walk 20 or 30 km. I think 20 km will be enough for Fiona tomorrow. So, we'll start again at 5 am.
