Agnes Water (26th-28th of December 2018)

Publié: 28.12.2018

We had no other choice but to take the bus to Agnes Water at 3:30am. Accordingly early, after a good 4 hours drive, we arrived in Agnes Water. After we arrived at the hostel, we relaxed for a bit. Ben and I were so tired that we couldn't do much. But we planned and booked the rest of our trip. Then we got up and explored Agnes Water. It's a small, nice town mainly used for surfing. Ben even went into the water at the beach. From Agnes Water onwards, the danger of jellyfish is not that strong anymore and you can finally use the beach. But for me, the water was way too cold...hihi. Afterwards, we had a relaxed dinner and fell exhausted into bed.

The next day, after breakfast, we walked for about two hours to Seventeen Seventy. This is the place where James Cook arrived on the 24th of May 1770. The place was later renamed in honor of James Cook. However, you can't have numbers as a city name, so the numbers are spelled out. The abbreviation 1770 is still commonly used, except on the street signs of course. When we arrived, we first relaxed at the beach and enjoyed the tranquility. It was beautiful and the water was very calm, unlike in Agnes Water. Then we went to two lookouts at the very northern tip of the town. The path finally led us to the point where James Cook had arrived back then. After that, we went back to Agnes Water. We were at the beach again, Ben went into the water again, and then we just watched the people there. Many played ball games or had a little picnic. Then it was time to pack our suitcases again. The next day, we continued to Hervey Bay very early in the morning.
