Wellington (NZL)

Publié: 31.10.2019

27.10.2019 - 30.10.2019

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and is located in the south of the North Island.

On the first day, I could experience why the city is also called 'Windy Welly' - it is very windy there because of its location.

I used the first day to explore the city. It started at the harbor and after a short time, I stood in front of the Parliament building, which is also called beehive because it looks like one.

On the way back, I discovered a German restaurant. On the menu, among other things, pretzels, sausages, schnitzel, (spinach) spätzle(?), Black Forest cake, and apple strudel...:D

The next day, I took the Cable Car in the morning to the higher-lying district of Kelburn. From up there, you have a fantastic panoramic view of Wellington.

I walked back to the city through the huge and diverse Botanic Garden.

I spent the afternoon in the National Museum 'Te Papa Tongarewa'. The museum deals with the history (including geology and flora & fauna) of New Zealand. Here, I saw a (stuffed) kiwi for the first time. Was in a traditional Maori event house. I experienced what an earthquake feels like in the earthquake simulator and much more. Definitely an interesting museum where you can discover and try out a lot and it's all free.

To conclude my stay in Wellington, I took a (exhausting) walk up Mt. Victoria to have another view of the city from there.

Wellington is the end of my journey across the North Island of New Zealand. In the next blog, I will continue with the journey to and on the South Island...
