Scenic Railway, St. Kitts (Cruise with the Royal Clipper in the Caribbean)

We arrived in Basseterre in the morning.

Still a bit tired, we boarded the tender and had to wait for quite some time until the bus picked us up for the excursion.

During a ride across the island, the bus driver, who was also our guide, told us some history and sights of St. Kitts.

The explanations continued as we then proceeded with the only narrow-gauge train in the Caribbean to tour around the island.

In the past, sugarcane was transported on the tracks, but since 2003, it has been a tourist attraction.

The lower section of the wagons is air-conditioned, while the upper section is open with benches all around.

During the ride, there were explanations and free drinks, including various cocktails with rum, which always kept the mood lively.

For entertainment, masked dancers came onto the wagons and performed a short show based on a tradition from the times of slavery.

After the train ride ended, the bus took us back to the ship, which was now anchored off the next port.

We strolled along the large sandy beach because there were supposed to be monkeys by the “Shipwreck Bar” at the end of the beach.

Indeed, we spotted some of the small monkeys in the trees.

However, they did not venture to the feeding station of the bar. Occasionally, a mongoose would slip by in search of food.

Back on the beach, we went to the dock, next to which there was also a cove for snorkeling.
