We left Tulum, Mathieu from Canada and I are left. We're taking the second-class bus to Bacalar, where there's a lake with seven different shades of blue and it's supposed to be pretty chill. The rest will come on Sunday evening.
We're recommended the Greenmonkeys Hostel, so logically we're going there. The Hostelworld reviews are also great.
Looks good at first glance, the lady at reception was definitely ultra high, anyway, we have all the information we need, I think. Only keeping the deposit at Hostelworld seems a bit fishy to me and my gut tells me that something is off here.
I decide on a tent, at least some 'privacy'. I unpack and spend 8 hours in a hammock.
Later on, I discover that there's water under my mattress, we clean it up, no problem. But the issues continue, the idiot at the reception apparently forgot to inform us that the whole hostel is locked up at 10:30 pm, and there's water in my tent again at night.
We cracked a window, so I knock everywhere and ask if I can sleep somewhere, finally find a spot, in a camper, and spend the night on a mattress.
First thing in the morning, logically towards the reception, investigate what's going on. The same lady is sitting there again and is just as stoned as before, some guy butts in too and now not much is being said besides Spanish. The only thing I'm told and what the two losers found interesting is that I now have to pay more for the night, because I slept in a room after all. Since I refuse and demand my money back, I get kicked out. Wake Mathieu up, pack our things, sort out breakfast and dash off. Those who know me a bit better should know the frequency of my pulse.
I haven't experienced something so resistant in a long time.
New hostel, new luck, Casa Lahar! It's great here, a bit hippie, but fun. So everything is back in order.
The next morning, we take a boat tour on the lake.
The lake is incredible, we go to a cenote that's 130m deep, to a sandbank with sulfur bath and wellness peeling, etc... Now I understand the enthusiasm for Bacalar!
